I’m doing something today I’ve never done before. I’m turning over the reins of my blog to a guest blogger.
As some of you know, I’ve had a doggone week. My faithful girl Prada and I butted heads; literally.
I’ve always been told I’m hard-headed but trust me when I say I’ve got nothing on Prada.
A trip to the ER resulted in a concussion diagnosis and a total ban from the computer.
So, who better to talk to you about balancing business and life than the girl who forced me to slow down, Prada.
Read her take on what happened as well as her top three tips for preventing your business from knocking you down.
Prada?
First, I want to say thank you to Kendrick for giving me this opportunity to share my thoughts with you.
You’d be surprised how often a doggie door gets shut in your face when someone finds out you’re technically a canine. In the words of Lily Allen, it’s hard out here for a bitch.
I also want to say, when a dog has a nighttime, in-house racecourse established and someone bends over to pick something up, thrusting their head onto the racetrack, whose fault is the collision, really?
But I digress.
I’ve had a front row dog bed to watch Kendrick run her business for awhile now and let me tell you, she works hard. I’m constantly telling her to follow my lead and balance all that work with some TLC.
Here are my top three tips to stop your business from running you down.
- Focus on what needs to get done and stop worrying about everything else. When I see a UPS driver that needs to be told to move on, do you think I let anything stop me? No way. Does it matter that Kendrick’s on the phone with a client? Or that an interview is happening live? Nothing else matters except doing my job; protecting my family from deliveries in brown.
- Take breaks when you need them (or just in case you do). Look, I work hard. I need to recharge my batteries from time to time. Every 2 hours or so, a girl needs a nap. So I schedule them in and I don’t let anything stop me (see #1). So what if Kendrick thinks it’s time for a walk or funnier still, that a trip to the vet is in order. Taking care of me is important so I can do my job; defending my family from UPS.
- Do one exquisite thing every day. My favorite thing in the world is exotic foods. I make sure to really savor something decadent every day: Purina, Milkbone and my personal favorite, Valentino. Whatever your pleasure, be sure to really indulge and appreciate it with all your senses. It’s a way to take care of yourself and remember why you work so hard; to keep delivery trucks off your lawn.
Focusing solely on what needs to be done, taking breaks when you need them and indulging daily will allow you to enjoy your work and your life instead of working like a dog. [TWEET THIS]
